I recently stayed at the Bull Hotel in Peterborough, UK. My room was quiet, well furnished with bed, desk, TV and armchair, the restaurant was excellent - a good, three course meal for 拢25 with unobtrusive service and an excellent wine list. The bar had individual tables and easy chairs for the single guest. There were security guards on the door, so chavs could not get in. Not bad for 拢60 per night (weekend rate).
What are your hotel experiences?Your most relaxing hotel stay?
Hi Foggy, sounds good but I'm not sure I'd like to pay 85 quid + wine (don't you find that these places REALLY rip you off for wine? Anything halfway decent costs silly money %26amp; the house wine at ten quid a bottle should be put on your fish %26amp; chips!) I tend to stick to premium lager or proper bitter ( if I can get it!).
Mind you if I were staying at someone else's expense I daresay I would indulge...
Sorry, I digress! Hotel experiences...
In Asia the term ';service'; takes on a whole new meaning. Labour is cheap. In India families are raised on 拢1 a day.
Best recent experience was the Usha Kiran Palace in Gwalior. Magical place of open %26amp; covered walkways, courtyards %26amp; winding staircases. Rooms (!) about 30 by 20 feet, bathroom bigger than a usual hotel room. Service? Well as I said..
Actually, I'm just off to rebook!Your most relaxing hotel stay?
The Marriott in New York.
The Rasa Ria 'Shangri La' resort; Sabah, in Borneo.
You are greeted by local musicians on arrival, a refreshing cold drink %26amp; a chilled towel. The rooms are exceptional %26amp; the service even better. Under each sun lounger is a small red flag, attached to a bomboo pole. Wave the flag, and a waiter arrives to take your order. The food accomodates all tastes;- local chicken curry, next to cauliflower cheese??? Ever type of water sport you could ask for, local orang-utan sanctuary %26amp; world class 18 hole golf course. Final testament? - my wife (holiday critic, extraordinaire), was so reluctant to leave, my son %26amp; I had to carry her to the room on the sun lounger, in order to get changed for the flight home!!! Holiday of a lifetime!!!
