Can anybody recommend which city and hotel stay at in Thailand?

A girlfriend of mine and I will be going to Thailand soon and specifically we're looking at Bangkok (but we're not limited to that area). We're into the nightlife (dance clubs, restaurants, and bars, and could enjoy some touristy stuff during the day) and am looking for an area with a good clean vibe. (It would be nice to throw in some beach time, but I'm thinking my time might be too short for it)

Because we're both single girls (in our late 20's, early 30's), we'd like to venture out to spots which would have decent looking straight men with a good mix with the crowds. In addition I'll only be staying there for a week or a little bit more and will be looking at staying in a hotel. I did see a lot of 4 star hotels around but am wondering if anybody would have any first hand recommendations. Also, should we rent a car when we get there, or should we just use public transporation?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

(Thailand is not my first choice as a destination for this type of trip, but we're accompanying her parents there so they can take care of some business there. Her parents will of course be off and doing their own thing)Can anybody recommend which city and hotel stay at in Thailand?

Sounds like Bangkok may be the place for you. There is no lack of hotels and nightlife venues and someone here should be able to point you into a direction where you can find your single straight guys.

A week is not a lot of time especially since you will be jet lag as well. I wouldn't recommend traveling around too much since 7 days is really not much time in Thailand.

If you do want beach time head to Pattaya but there are a lot nicer beaches in Thailand than Pattaya but Pattaya is closest to Bangkok.

If you do go to Pattaya you may want to enjoy the nightlife in Pattaya for a night. Spend a night in Walking Street. Pattaya may be the best Party place in Asia and even though it's tailored to the single men's desires, you will definitely have a blast.

As far as renting a car goes I would definitely say no. Thailand's public and private transportation system is great and inexpensive. If you have never been driving in Thailand, forget it!

Enjoy your week of vacation and hire, taxis, motorbike taxis, tuk tuks, and buses.
Bangkok is not far but, not close to a beach. The most popular one is near Pattaya, about 90 miles south of Bangkok, about 2 hour drive by taxi or bus. You could spend the day and return no problem. You could hire the taxi to take you there, take you around Pattaya and take you back to your hotel for a fixed sum probably. Negotiate. A hired driver from your hotel could cost 4500-6000 baht, you could probably hire a taxi for 2500 baht or so maybe.

Hotels? There are many to choose from and all price ranges. If you are thinking 4 star which is great. To me its a matter where I stay and its environs. If you don't mind the noise, traffic and the pollution stay along Sukhumvit Road, or in the Siam Square area. Most of the touristy type places, Wats = temples, Palaces, etc. are east of Siam Square. Shopping for clothes and things, should be done in the MBK Centre, Platinum Mall(8 floors of clothes) or the other Siam Malls.

For entertainment, dancing in particular, I liked the RCA area, there are 3-4 clubs there to choose from. You can take a taxi there.

Most tourist things are easily accessible by taxi. But, Bangkok traffic is terrible, it may be better with the worsening economy. I try to take the BTS Skytrain which runs through the major parts of Bangkok and the MTA Subway to get around then take a taxi if needed.

www.bangkok.com, for the touristy things, wats, shopping malls and restaurants.

www.asiarooms.com, www.sawadee.com for hotel room rates

www.thaiwebsites.com for websites on other topics in Thailand.

Good luck
