Well, first of all are you talking about writing a book or patenting an invention? Since you posted in the Books and Authors category I would assume the first but I don't think so.

If you are talking about a book, then you do NOT want to copyright it before you submit it to agents or publishers. It is amatuer and will make things more difficult for them down the line. Besides, if you are talking about a book, it doesn't sound like you have written it yet.
